Awareness of First Aid for Mental Health L1 (RQF) – L4 (SCQF) (DL) 5 hrs


This Course is Distance Learning (DL) and can be completed from your office or at home via Zoom.

The course will provide you with the knowledge to identify suspected mental health conditions and the skills to start a conversation surrounding mental health.


A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including

  • What is First Aid for Mental Health?
  • Identifying mental health conditions
  • Providing advice and starting a conversation
  • Stress
  • Mental health conditions


This qualification is available to learners aged 14 years or over. Learners must have the literacy skills to be able to read and self-learn the reference manual and additional resources.

In addition, the learner will need access to a computer with a reasonable internet connection in order to access the distance learning resources and communicate with the Trainer/Assessor.

A Parent/Guardian’s consent must be gained for anybody below the age of 18 to both take the course and the assessment.


The qualification has 2 assigned guided learning hours (GLH)  and 5 hours total qualification time (TQT). GLH indicates the number of contact hours that the learner will have with the Trainer/Assessor.

TQT includes GLH but considers unsupervised learning and is an estimate of how long the average learner will take to achieve the qualification.

It is beneficial for the learner to undertake additional independent learning for example, by doing research on the internet.


An Award in Awareness for First Aid for Mental Health will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment.

This qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years.


The qualification is assessed by a professional discussion via video Link with the Trainer/Assessor and evidenced by a Professional Discussion Record.

A Parent/Guardian’s consent must be gained for anybody below the age of 18 to both take the course and the assessment.

The learner has a maximum of 60 minutes to complete the assessment. There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred..

Red Hackle Training are registered & associated with NUCO Training and are associated via NUCO with the FAA all our courses are are in accordance with both. We also adhere to the necessary safeguarding protocols of the NSPCC.

Red Hackle Training is insured through Hiscox Insurance Company, we cover the requirements of the HSE and fulfil the HSE due diligence requirements.

Note – the HSE sets a trainer to student ratio of 1:12 people and our costs are based on
working with a group of 12. If you only have a small number of candidates for the course it would
be worth trying to contact other local organisation who may require training to try and fill your
course, to reduce the per head costs for yourself.

PLEASE BE AWARE: Payment is due 30 days before the course start date, or 30 days on receipt of your invoice if this is more than 30 days prior to course start date. The course Payment should be paid, or course cancelled a minimum of 7 Days before start of course, this would result in you not receiving a refund of any kind!!
